The Ohio Valley Athletic Conference All-star Wrestling Team will wrestle the Mid-Western Pennsylvania All-star Wrestling Team Tuesday, March 13, 2012. The event known as the Clash of Champions will be held at 7:00 at Wheeling Park High School. It is the 23rd installment of the OVAC-MAC All-star Match that began in 1988 and annually features some of the best wrestlers the Ohio Valley and WPIAL has to offer including many conference champions and state place winners.
The banquet got cancelled due to a reservation error so weigh-ins will be 5:45 on Tuesday with a 10 lb allowance.
Serving as head coach for the OVAC will be Tom Brown from Caldwell High School with ultra successful Paul Jackson from Parkersburg South, Mike Blackburn of Steubenville and Scott Roth of Martins Ferry serving as assistants. Each had won their respective divisions in the giant OVAC Wrestling Tournament held in January. For the Pennsylvania all-star team, Jason Martsolf , head coach at Hopewell High School, has earned the honor of head coach, via his teams conference tournament victory along with his assistant coach. Currently the OVAC has won the event 3 of the last 4 years. Small fry matches featuring area wrestlers from the Wheeling Small Fry Wrestling Club and the MAC conference will be held at 6:00 prior to the high school all-star march. Price of admission is $5.00 for students and $6.00 for adults. Since its emergence in 1988, The Clash has spotlighted some of the most outstanding wrestling talent in the tri-state area.
THE CHAMPION WRESTLER What is the difference between a champion wrestler and winner? There is a difference. The champion wrestler is a man of character, whereas the winner is just a character. The champion wrestler respects his adversaries while the winner belittles his opponents. The champion wrestler is thankful for his success. On the other hand, the winner is a showboat, self-centered and arrogant. And finally, the champion wrestler accepts defeat with dignity, but the winner makes excuses and blames others. Below are the personal qualities the champion wrestler always exhibits: C COMMITMENT: The champion is dedicated to improving his athletic skills. H HUMILITY: The champion attributes his success to those around him. A ATTITUDE: The champion always exhibits a positive attitude win or lose. M MATURITY: The champion keeps his composure at all times. P PERSEVERANCE: The champion never quits no matter the outcome. I INTEGRITY: The champion constantly plays by the rules. O OBEDIENCE: The champion always accepts advice and positive criticism. N NOBILITY: The champion presents himself as a positive role model. If you want to truly be respected by others as a wrestler, compete as a CHAMPION and not just a winner. by Dr. Bill Welker OVAC & WVSSAC Wrestling Rules Interpreter Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame OVAC All Stars 11 Wins vs. MAC All Stars 5 Wins SERIES RECORD AND SITE
