West Liberty Wrestling Alumni Weekend

The West Liberty University wrestling team will host a series of matches Friday and Saturday on the Hilltop, and will use this opportunity to recognize former members of its program who are present on either or both days.  The Hilltoppers, who are currently 10-3 and ranked #14 in NCAA DII, will host Findlay (OH) on Friday night, then wrestle Tiffin (OH) and Mercyhurst (PA) in a triangular Saturday afternoon.

Friday night’s match versus Findlay will begin at 7 PM in the ASRC.  WL Wrestling alumni are asked to register prior to the match in the lobby of Blatnik Hall at 6:30 PM, and will be recognized just before the start of the match.  Findlay is currently ranked #16 in NCAA DII.  The Oilers’ line-up features 2011 DII National Champ Michael Lybarger (165 lbs. and currently ranked #2 in DII), and two nationally ranked wrestlers in Ben Sergent (125 lbs. and ranked #8) and Adam Walters (184 lbs. and ranked #6).

Saturday’s order of matches and their start times will be as follows: 1:00 PM-Mercyhurst/Tiffin, 2:30 PM-Tiffin/West Liberty, and 4:00 PM-West Liberty/Mercyhurst.  WL Wrestling alumni are asked to register in the lobby of Blatnik Hall at 2:00 PM.  Alumni will be recognized just prior to the start of the WL/Mercyhurst match.  West Liberty’s first opponent on the day, Tiffin, is a second year NCAA DII program.  The ‘Topper’s final foe of the weekend may prove to be their strongest. Mercyhurst enters the weekend ranked #8 in NCAA DII.  The Lakers feature 2009 DII National Champion Josh Shields, who missed last season due to an injury.  Shields is currently ranked #3 in DII at 174.  Josh’s younger brother, Jordan Shields, is a returning All-American, and is ranked #6 at 157 lbs. The other nationally ranked wrestler in the Laker line-up is #7 ranked 285 lber. Fred Hale.

West Liberty’s line-up features two nationally ranked wrestlers in Junior Nick Wykoff (#3 at 141 lbs.) and Senior JD Ramsey (#6 at 285 lbs.). Welcome to OVAeC Wrestling

(Ohio Valley Athletic ex Coach) The purpose of this web site is to promote O.V.A.C. wrestling and the individuals that make it all possible. I don't proclaim to know everything about the
O.V.A.C.'s or wrestling, but I have coached in the O.V.A.C.'s for the past 8 years so I do have some knowledge of the sport, coaches and the wrestlers(2002).
