My Rankings (Before OVAC)
OVAC Seeds
OVAC Place finishers 2003
This weight class was the most aggressive weight class in the OVAC, and one of my favorite weight class to watch all year! NOT to mention the hardest to place in! Christopher Wilson Monroe Central a returning champion, and state finalist was my early pick. Wilson is very physical and has a brutal wizard. Jessie Irwin Shadyside wrestles just the same style, "the in your face style". Irwin seemed to slow down towards the end of the year. I expect much better things from a healthy Irwin next year. Steve Flowers Oak Glen wrestled smart, mistake free, was in great shape, and did what he had to do to win. He again showed this with a State Title at the end of the season. Brock Bowman Buckeye Local is yet another physical wrestler (I like physical wrestling that is why I like this weight class) and he works hard in the off season. I would not be surprised to see him atop the podium next year. Matt Hannahs Shenandoah is yet an other great wrestler in this weight class, losing to Irwin in OT at the OVAC Tournament. Zac Pendleton Indian Creek, Dana Davis Brooke and Alex Lee John Marshall were all State Qualifiers and finished 6th-8th. This weight class was very demanding and the majority of these wrestlers return next year. Also in this weight class you had 8 State Qualifiers, and 3 of those were State Placers, 2 of which were State Champions: Jesse Irwin, Shadyside; Christopher Wilson, Woodsfield Monroe Central; Brock Bowman, Rayland Buckeye Local; Zac Pendleton, Wintersville Indian Creek; Jeff Cumpston, Cameron; Steve Flowers, Oak Glen; Mike Merico, Weir; Dustin Richey, John Marshall. |
