125 looked to be a battle of a proven senior, versus a up and coming sophomore. I was worried about Clay Tucker's, Martins Ferry big jump from 103 to 125. When I first saw him though at BSJ he looked the build of a 125 pounder. He also showed his powerful, straight forward technique. Tucker now has two OVAC Titles in his first two years! Jarrod Anderson, Barnesville has been a contender ever since his freshman year. Also a tough nosed wrestler, he and Tucker locked horns a few times this year, with Tucker coming out on top each time. Jonathan McFarland, Brooke made sure that there would not be a Tucker-Anderson final match with a one point decision over Anderson in the OVAC semi-finals. I believe that McFarland had excellent training partners, and also the summer wrestling that Brooke does year after year was extremely beneficial. Josh Hoover, Beaver Local was a high choice of mine here too. He was already a two time runner up at this tournament, and a member of the powerful Beaver team. It seemed to me that Hoover had some type of injury all year long, these injuries kept him from the final matches just about all season. Ryan Turnbull, Buckeye Local was a wrestler that was always in the mix, but wrestled up and down at different times in the season. Ben Cain, Meadowbrook is another smaller weight wrestler moving up. Cain also had that ability to wrestle up to the potential of the person that he was wrestling at which made him dangerous. The surprise of this tournament, by chance luck, met in the first round with Shane Wright's, Oak Glen decision over Tony Mayle, Indian Creek 6-4. Mayle then went on to place higher then Wright. Chris Bond, Caldwell will be a name to watch next year.

Also in this weight class you had 6 State Qualifiers, and 3 of those were State Placers: Jarrod Anderson, Barnesville; Clay Tucker, Martins Ferry; Noah O'Neil Cameron; Shane Wright, Oak Glen; Alex Northcraft, Tyler Consolidated; Jonathan McFarland, Brooke.
