This turned out to be a very good weight class prediction wise for me, and competition wise for the wrestlers!

Their was a nice mix of younger stars making a name for themselves, and older vets trying to remain the top dog at 112 this year! My number one pick from the beginning of the year was a no brainer (You would think) returning OVAC Champion and State Finalist Lucas Huffman, River! I had Nate Gossett, Union Local a rough and tough wrestler from Union Local next. When I went to BSJ I just did not see Skoff, I seen his cousin Mickey (Mick it is now) Nicola. I then knew why Skoff was so good, he had an excellent work out partner in Nicola! "I believe this may have hurt Huffman thought out the years, not having a good workout partner!" Luke Hoppel, Beaver Local coming off a nice freshman season was also in the thick of things, missing states this year by a match. Justin Goneau, Oak Glen was also a seasoned vet with previous state experiences.

In the tournament, Hoppel loses in the first round, and Gossett then loses in the second round. I was a little worried about my predictions at that time. Both wrestlers showed great character in the wrestle back rounds. The final match was a great match with quick flurries. Nicola has put himself in place now to become a 4 time champion!

Also in this weight class you had 6 State Qualifiers, and 3 of those were State Placers: Nathan Gossett, Belmont Union Local (11), Lucas Huffman, Hannibal River (12), Brandon Antill, Cameron (11), Chris Gianni Weirton Madonna (10), Justin Goneau, Oak Glen (12), Cole Heintzman, Tyler Consolidated (10).

Welcome to OVAeC Wrestling!

(Ohio Valley Athletic ex Coach) The purpose of this web site is to promote O.V.A.C. wrestling and the individuals that make it all possible. I don't proclaim to know everything about the
O.V.A.C.'s or wrestling, but I have coached in the O.V.A.C.'s for the past 8 years so I do have some knowledge of the sport, coaches and the wrestlers(2002).
