EAST LIVERPOOL — West Branch flexed its muscles Saturday at the Potter Classic holding off East Liverpool and Indian Creek.

West Branch finished with 342 points, followed by East Liverpool (235), Indian Creek (200), Brockway Area (173), Oak Glen (109) and Weirton (99).

“It was our first tournament and we have some things we need to go over,” East Liverpool coach Todd Smith said. “We wrestled pretty well and left everything on the mat.”

East Liverpool’s Cagney Springer was selected the tournaments MVP after winning the 125-pound title.

Denny Ours also finished first at 215.

“West Branch is a great team,” Smith said. “You’ve got to give them a lot of credit. We’ve got a young team, we’re just getting our feet wet. It’s a long season, this is just the start.”

The Potters received five second-place finishes, including Preston Foster (119), Vince Ours (130), Josh Coil (140), Dylan Jones (160) and Rob Rowe (189).

Taking third place was Mike Mercer (103), Wyatt Duffield (112) and Alex Morris (160).
