Christiansburgh

Posted by Head coach Sean Doyle:

We had a great day of experience winning four matches. Two of the duals were both won by two points over teams ranked in the top ten in Virginia. In the finals we were defeated soundly by Christiansburg by a score of 60-18. We knew we were going there to find out where we needed to improve, and I can say we will have a lot of video to watch tomorrow. My hats off to a great team.

Individually here were our results with some side notes on the wrestlers with winning records:

103 Kyle George 0-2

112 John Nice 2-3

119/125 Dirk Bauer 4-1 (Dirks only loss came to Devin Carter 9-4. Carter won the Ironman and Super 32 in the past two months. Dirk was leading 2-0 the majority of the first before giving up an escape and td late. Midway through the match you could see Carter's last two months of battling top level competition was the difference. Carter scored 3 Take downs late to win 9-4.

119/125 Aaron Majetich 4-1 (Aarons only loss came to Ray Borja of Hayfield. Borja is also a nationally ranked individual and Aaron had a hard time keeping up with him on his feet. Other than that Aaron had a great day.)

130/135 Nick Taylor 4-1 (Nick had a successful day with his only loss coming to the 3rd ranked wrestler in AAA Virginia. Nick was winning when he was taken to his back and pinned.)

130/135 Hans Rogerson 3-2

140 Cody Berisford 5-0 (Cody was a very pleasant surprise and the story of the day for us. Cody is a sophomore that puts a lot of extra time in the room after practice. He has improved drastically and had a great day for us)

145 Marcus George 3-2 (Marcus had a good day winning a very tough battle in the third round that helped us go on to win by two points. In the third round he had a slight injury that we decided to wrestle through and he lost his last two matches.)

152 Luke Braunlich 1-3

160 Tyler Settle 2-3

171 Danny Doyle 4-1 (Danny's loss came to nationally ranked Braden Carter who also took 5th at the Ironman last week. Danny wrestled a hard first period and was down 2-0. We selected neutral and mid way through the second Danny was taken down and cradled. He lost by fall. Danny had a very good day winning some tough battles along the way.)

189 Tucker Goodwin 4-1 (Tucker had a great day as well winning some tough matches and losing his match to Christiansburg.)

215 Mike Lough 4-1 (Mike had an outstanding day with his only loss coming to nationally ranked Weber of Christiansburg. Weber also placed 5th at the Ironman last week. Mike was a question mark for the team and put those questions to rest. He is ready to compete at the varsity level.)

285 Zack Kimmins 3-2 (Zack had a good day and I'm sure he wished he could have one match back. His two losses came to the wrestler from Christiansburg and he lost a match that he was winning soundly when he was taken to his back and pinned to a wrestler from James Woods.)
