I had problems all year with this weight class, and this is the only weight class I did not have all the wrestlers in the top 8 listed.

This weight class was owned by seniors, but not won by one. Robby Dimmerling Monroe Central, wrestled a great tournament. He also made a statement for next year by capturing the OVAC title and making a State appearance. Bobby Samsa Shadyside is a very stocky, and powerful wrestler. Since his move from 135 he has been a constant in the upper weights. Chas Yoder Martins Ferry is another name to watch. He was held out of the OVAC with an injury but, did come back at the end of the season to become a State Placer! I really don't see him moving up anymore, but who knows? The rest of the senior class battled each other all year and made a great showing in the tournament.

171 leaves a bunch of open spaces for the wrestlers next year, and could lead to some easy team points come January.

Also in this weight class you had 9 State Qualifiers, and 3 of those were State Placers: Chas Yoder, Martins Ferry; Robert Samsa, Shadyside; Chris Green, East Liverpool; Jordan Williams, Lisbon Beaver; Adam Cooper, Cameron; Rhett Northcraft, Oak Glen; Sam Gieseke, Tyler Consolidated; Nathan Loughran, Brooke; Zach Moore, John Marshall.

Welcome to OVAeC Wrestling!

(Ohio Valley Athletic ex Coach) The purpose of this web site is to promote O.V.A.C. wrestling and the individuals that make it all possible. I don't proclaim to know everything about the
O.V.A.C.'s or wrestling, but I have coached in the O.V.A.C.'s for the past 8 years so I do have some knowledge of the sport, coaches and the wrestlers(2002).
