Bears take Cardinal Invite for third time in
four years

COLUMBUS — After dropping its first Cardinal Invitational in three years last
season, the Oak Glen wrestling team got back on the winning track Saturday in
Columbus.
Crowning four champions, the Bears won the eight-team tournament with 250
points. Mount Vernon was second with 207 points and last year’s champion,
Reynoldsburg, was third with 177.
Joel Paolo (130 pounds) headlined four individual champions. Paolo won his
second crown in as many years.
Joining Paolo as champions were Danny Rowland (103), Cody Miller (152) and Zach
Six (160).
Ryan Asbury (125) and Nick McAvoy (145) had second place finishes, while Troy
Eckleberry (119), Paden Potts (135) and Doug Murray (285) finished third.
David Mahan (112) rounded out the Oak Glen placers with a fourth.
Oak Glen will be back in action Saturday at home with a tri-match with Weir and
Brooke. It will be the Bears final tune up before the regional tournament.
The Bears reserve team was at the Magnolia Tournament with Dominick Burchett
(103), Winston Jordan (125), Marcus Wells (160) and Jimmy Boyd (285) all winning
titles.
As a team, Oak Glen finished second with 128.5 points behind Wheeling Park’s
149.5.
Mike McAvoy (135) had a third place finish for the locals, while Luke Goodwin
(112) and Ethan Smith (125) finished fourth.
