This was a very competitive weight class with many of these wrestlers already placing in the top 4 in previous years! This could have been a better finals with two State Finalist battling it out! Brian Humphrey Wheeling Park capped of his OVAC career with his 4th placement and a championship, and a 2nd place state finish! He was very tough on the bottom and quick on his feet, a great combination. Joe Skoff Bellaire St. Johns a finalist a year ago made it back to the finals with a hard fought semi finals match over Smith. Skoff did not let this slow him, as shown by his 2nd place finish at States! Luke Hoppel Beaver Local showed he belong in the elite of the weight class with a 3rd place finish, beating 3 time placer Valles. Anthony Valles Weirton Madonna Finished a tremendous career recording well over 130 wins. Matt Smith Brooke fell a little short at the OVAC Tournament never fully rebounding from his semi-final lost. Nate Gossett Union Local seemed to be fighting a battle with injuries all year, I will miss his rough style. He was one of my favorites to watch! Torey Prickett Monroe Central showed he was a young wrestler to watch next year. Daniel Majors Barnesville may have finished 8th but he did qualify for the State Tournament to show his upside potential for next year.

Also in this weight class you had 7 State Qualifiers, and 4 of those were State Placers: Daniel Magers, Barnesville, (10), Joe Skoff, Bellaire St. John Central Catholic, (10), Dirk Baker, Oak Glen, 10, Noah O'Neil, Cameron, 12, Anthony Valles, Madonna, 12, Josh Gust, Tyler Consolidated, 9, Brian Humphrey, Wheeling Park.
