My Rankings (Before OVAC)

A bunch of powerful wrestlers square off at 189. I gave the nod to Tominack because of his finals experience. Any of the top 4 could make the finals.

Cody Tomanick Wheeling Park was my number one choice at 215 and then 189. Cody fought injuries all season, but still was a State Placer and an O.V.A.C. Champion. Powerful Bobby Samsa Shadyside was a close second in my rankings. He showed his toughness in his overtime finals match with Tominack. Samsa finished his high school career with a trip to the State Tournament. It was fun to watch Bobby go from 135 to 189, and still using his lighter weight moves while at 189. John Horn Shenandoah looked to be senior as a freshman! I expect him to build on his third place O.V.A.C. finish, and his trip to the State Tournament. Horn should be at the top of my list at 189, if he can maintain his weight. Daniel Howard St. Clairsville another powerful wrestler was battling injuries but still placed fourth, defaulting in the finals for third and fourth place. Staying injury free Daniel went on to become a State Qualifier. Josh Ewing John Marshall placed fifth but did beat Horn in the quarter finals, he then went on to place ahead of injured Tominack at the State Tournament. David Foltz Oak Glen mirrors Chris Stevens Oak Glen's 171 ponder. He is another great point scorer that was over looked last season. David should be in the top four next season if not higher. James Beech Steubenville seemed light for 189 and should be a top four contender for next season. The biggest surprise to this weight class might be Samuel Zeyer Martins Ferry a standout wrestler in Junior High. He competed at the end of the season and almost made a trip to the State Tournament. If Zeyer is at 189 he will be a threat for the title!

Also in this weight class you had 8 State Qualifiers, and 3 of those were State Placers and 0 State Champion: Dan Howard, St. Clairsville, (12), John Horn, Sarahsville Shenandoah, (10), Bobby Samsa, Shadyside, (12), David Foltz, Oak Glen, 11, Steven Blake, Cameron, 11, Michael Gessler, Tyler Consolidated, 12, Josh Ewing, John Marshall, 12, Cody Tominack, Wheeling Park, 12.

Welcome to OVAeC Wrestling!

(Ohio Valley Athletic ex Coach) The purpose of this web site is to promote O.V.A.C. wrestling and the individuals that make it all possible. I don't proclaim to know everything about the
O.V.A.C.'s or wrestling, but I have coached in the O.V.A.C.'s for the past 8 years so I do have some knowledge of the sport, coaches and the wrestlers(2002).
