Chas Yoder Martins Ferry a powerful but, skilled wrestler cruised through the O.V.A.C. Tournament. He did have a little trouble with Burkhardt in the finals (7-2). He entered the State Tournament with a 43-1 record, but did not place, showing just how tough his weight class was! Yoder should be the favorite next year at this weight class or the 189 pound weight class. Luke Burkhardt Shadyside a two time runner-up at the OVAC Tournament, was arguably one of the hardest fighting wrestlers in recent memories. Luke did not let cancer, injuries, or losses slow down his progress. He did not make the State Tournament but did however become a High School All-American to end his senior year. David Ross Steubenville had many hard fought matches, and showed great heart to take third place at the O.V.A.C. Tournament. He then went on to become a State Qualifier. Chris Stevens Oak Glen  had a quite but very productive season. He was on a great team and over looked often as a Junior. He quietly produced team points to help the Golden Bears all season including his fifth place finish at the State Tournament. I expect Chris to be in the lime light more next season. Shawn Simmons John Marshall got a late start to the season, entering the O.V.A.C. Tournament with a 3-2 record. Shawn made the most of it with a fifth place finish. Jacob Zerkle Shenandoah a surprise at this weight class wrestled back after a second round loss to take sixth place. Nathan Loughran Brooke improved a great deal from last season, and it showed this season, with a fifth place finish at the State Tournament. Vic Bologna Harrison Central an excellent wrestler, could be a factor in this weight class next year if he stays healthy. This weight class had a great number of Junior placers, making for a strong weigh class next season.

Also in this weight class you had 8 State Qualifiers, and 3 of those were State Placers and 0 State Champion: David Ross, Steubenville, (12), Kellen Hughes, Wintersville Indian Creek, (12), Chas Yoder, Martins Ferry, (11), Chris Stevens, Oak Glen, 11, Isaac Stewart, Cameron, 12, Ronnie Stevens, Tyler Consolidated, 11, Nathan Loughran, Brooke, 11, Shawn Simmons, John Marshall, 11.

Welcome to OVAeC Wrestling!

(Ohio Valley Athletic ex Coach) The purpose of this web site is to promote O.V.A.C. wrestling and the individuals that make it all possible. I don't proclaim to know everything about the
O.V.A.C.'s or wrestling, but I have coached in the O.V.A.C.'s for the past 8 years so I do have some knowledge of the sport, coaches and the wrestlers(2002).
