My Rankings (Before OVAC) Babel has been first all year but will face a stiff challenge with returning state champion (Richie) and Returning State Qualifiers (Pendleton, & Frollini).
OVAC Seeds
OVAC Place finishers 2004 Seed in ( )
This could have been the
most competitive weigh class at the OVAC Tournament from first place to eight
place. Not taking anything away from the wrestlers at the top, I would guess
that if you ran this tournament over again the top eight placers would be
different! Casey Hughes Cameron showed that the
cream rises to the top finishing the year with a State Title, and an undefeated
record of 41-0! I had Hughes ranked lower, in big part to Cameron's early season
schedule. Dustin Richie John Marshall a returning
State Champion (2003) did not let his second place OVAC finish stop him from an
other State Title in 2004, he finished the year 35-5. Dustin will return for his
senior year still looking for his first OVAC Title.
Todd Hunkler St.
John Central always a threat to win a
tournament fell short with a semi final lost to Richey, but rebounded nicely
with a fifth place finish at the State Tournament.
David Babel Buckeye Local
was my number one pick all year. David started
off the year strong and was the second place finisher at 152 the year before.
David did finish the season strong to become a State Qualifier.
Billy Frollini Shadyside
another well built, aggressive wrestler finished
the season with his second trip to the State Tournament. Frollini and Richie
should be wrestlers to watch next year! Also in this weight class you had 8 State Qualifiers, and 4 of those were State Placers and 2 State Champion: David Babel, Rayland Buckeye Local, (12), Todd Hunkler, Bellaire St. John Central Catholic, (12), Billy Frollini, Shadyside, (11), Drew Stevens, Oak Glen, 12, Casey Hughes, Cameron, 12, Mike Merico, Weir, 12, Dustin Richey, John Marshall, 11, Dusty Hill, Wheeling Park, 12.
