This Districts reallocation of teams will be seen immediately at 103. While the
Buckeye Local will continue to be the dominate sectional at the district meet,
the central will be strengthened by the addition of Olentangy and Meadowbrook by
the addition of Minerva. Returning D1 state placer Fiorucci leads the way here.
Olentangy has kept their D1 schedule and Fiorucci has responded by placing at
Hoover (2nd) and Medina (5th), then earning a championship at Mason. He is all
but assured a spot in Columbus, the three remaining spots should be highly
contested, however. Price and Heavlin are the only returners. Price placed a
respectable 6th last year in a talent-ladened class that saw all 4 qualifiers
place at the Schott. Miller was a match away from placing at Hoover, but posted
a solid 6th at Top Gun. Smith started off the season with championships at
Cambridge and Smithville, but came up short of placing at Top Gun. Guiterrez is
a cornerstone of the rebuilding process at DeSales, was a match away from
placing at Brecksville and a solid 4th at the CIT. Williams had an excellent
weekend at the OVAC, notching victories over both Heavlin and Leppla on his way
to a 2nd place finish. Heavlin, a senior, who has seemingly had trouble staying
at full strength, is certainly capable of doing some damage on Saturday if
healthy.

The triumvirate of excellent three pounders from 2009 is back this year up a
weight class. 2009 state-finalist Bertubin is Brakemans pick to win it all this
year. I imagine Langdon has closed the already small gap considerably given his
success so far this year. He finished 4th at both Medina and Top Gun and was
perfect at the State Duals. McComas has actually spent most of the season at
119. At Brecksville he was 7th and at the OVAC 8th. Sandwiched in between were
the State Duals which saw him down at 112 and fare rather well. For the final
spot I give the edge to ever-improving freshman McHugh. After posting a solid
4th place finish at Hoover, he won it all at Mason. Wilson is a sure-fire state
placer in my opinion, but seems to be battling an injury, if he is able to go;
he certainly makes an impact not only at Claymont, but the Schott as well.

Quite possibly the deepest weight class at Claymont will be 119. Head of the
class here in my opinion is Hutchins, who features a bruising, tough on top
style of wrestling and has spent most of the season at 125. Foster, a state
alternate last year, won a championship at the OVAC and seems to lead the way in
the east. D1 district qualifier Perez and SQ Wiltshire have also spent some time
this year at 125 and figure to be in the mix to get out. The task will not be
easy though, McGhee is solid, Beane may be the most talented of everyone, and if
Burkhart is around has experience on his side. This should be an exciting weight
class to follow all weekend and I wouldnt be the least bit surprised to see
some try to punch their ticket at 125 instead.

The reason I say some 119s might migrate to 125 is because at this point 125
seems entirely wide open. Miller, a returning state placer is head and shoulders
above the rest. He owns a title at Cambridge, a 5th place finish at Brecksville,
and took runner-up at the OVAC losing only to a WV wrestler. The field after him
is a bit of a mystery. Tullius, like Miller won a title at Cambridge, but then
was unable to compete at Medina, he has wrestled at 130 for much of the year and
I imagine will have success here. Mercer, a SQ last year, hit a road block at
the OVAC, failing to place and pinned by Llewelyn, a freshman, in the process.
Thompson, may be a light 125, but is not light on talent; he picked up a couple
wins at Heath last year. Caserta should be considered simply due to the grinding
schedule he has wrestled thus far. It should be interesting to see how this
weight unfolds.

130 is loaded. The top 4 here have all qualified before; both Warner and VanDyne
placed last year and D3 converts Shepard and Fusco have experience at the
Schott. Warner has had a terrific year. He won Medina and finished 3rd at Top
Gun, only losing to a freshman named Jordan. Shepard, a big 130, was a district
champ last year at Steubenville. Fusco followed his championship at Olentangy
Liberty by winning it all at Marion Harding and Pleasant and a 4th place finish
at the CIT, only losing to D1 competition. VanDyne took 1st at Cambridge and
defaulted to 4th at the OVAC. Felgenhauer was a state alternate last year and a
match away from placing at Medina. The slick Santos down from D1 last year could
also play a factor here. The others are hardly others here; Fosco is
ever-improving and Overholt, Harr, and Maynard all have district experience.

Central Crossing had a real good thing going in southwest Columbus; it was a
shame it had to come to an abrupt end. It is good, however, to see the wrestlers
from that program or any other programs where the levies failed for that matter,
land on their feet. Higgins, a SQ for Central Crossing in 2008 has found success
this year now up a few weight classes. He was impressive wrestling 140 at the
GMVWA beating SP Hefner, and losing only to state champs Martinez and Fayette.
Wolfe I believe at this point is still undefeated; he is a streaky wrestler who
is due for a good district tourney. Art Hobley is a story I enjoy. He didnt
begin wrestling until in high school and has steadily improved each year. Last
year at Heath he lost his first round match, and then fought his way through the
consolation bracket to qualify for state. This year he nabbed titles at
Barnesville and the OVAC. Those 3 I think are givens, the remaining spot should
be highly contested. Rigney wrestles with a rarely matched intensity. Skipper
and Coffman are returning DQs and Colvin can certainly have a say if healthy.

both returning SQs. Both new to the district, Ammons and Lutes figure to be a
factor.

Those in attendance at Claymont will get to watch three of the best wrestlers in
the entire state square off at 145. All three placed last year at the Schott,
and it would surprise me if this year it didnt happen again. Ice, a quick pin
artist, didnt even spend 3 minutes on the mat in 3 matches at the State Duals
and pinned his way to the OVAC finals which he won and was voted most valuable
wrestler. Grandominicos only losses this year have come at the hands of D1
stalwarts Squire and Salupo. Rosch, injured for part of the year, is a takedown
machine and should be ready to go come districts. Harble, Davis, and Bartrug all
have district experience and should be in the mix for that coveted fourth spot.

Like 140, the spots at 152 are up for grabs. Last years district champ Beckley
deserves the top spot here. He placed ahead of Hetterscheidt and Worley at
Medina and notched a victory over Boyce to take 7th at Top Gun. Hetterscheidt, a
D1 district qualifier last year, placed at Hoover (5th) and Mason (4th). At
Heath in 2009 Worley lost his first round match, but had a good Saturday and
ended up being a state alternate. He lost in the finals at Cambridge, where
Boyce came in 3rd. Boyce finished 8th at Top Gun amidst a very good field. In
line with the common theme of Canal Winchester this year Bellomy has been up a
weight class most of this season where he has done very well. Costa should
contend as well after a good showing at the OVAC.

Zang, just a sophomore, qualified last year in D3, only to draw Utley in the
first round. This year after spending most of the season at 171, he has recently
made the cut to 160. At 171 he won Olentangy Liberty, finished 3rd at Harding,
but failed to place at the CIT. At Pleasant he made 160 and only lost at
overtime match to Christman. After a 1-2 showing last year at Heath, Riker has
vastly improved. He rolled through the competition at Medina only losing to
Sulzer in the finals. Eddy was an interesting story last year. At Brecksville he
was a 160 pounder, come sectionals, however, he couldnt find a varsity spot
amidst Harrison Centrals vastly talented middle-upper weights, so he entered
the Buckeye Local sectional at 215. This year he is back where I imagine he is a
little more comfortable. He posted a 6th place finish at Top Gun and a 7th at
the OVAC. At districts Silvers wrestled 215 in 2008 and 171 in 2009 and should
be poised to rattle off some wins at 160 here. Hosom, Baugess, Gadd, Legace, and
Monhollen all have district experience and Riggs is a talented freshman.

The move from Firestone to Claymont should be an enjoyable one for Kullman. He
rode a victory over Johnson to finish 5th at Top Gun and snuck by Nentwick 6-4
in the finals at Cambridge. Johnson a SQ last year, may have been somewhat
banged up at Top Gun and if at full strength should have no problem going
toe-to-toe with Kullman. Hazlett, following suit with his Westland teammates
from a year ago, should make an impact at Claymont. He was a solid 4th this year
at Hoover. Nentiwck won 2 matches last year at Heath and only lost to a WV
wrestler at the OVAC. Kaiser will look to improve his state alternate status
from a year, while King and others will provide worthy competition in this deep
weight class.

The absence of Jake Mallernee would make 189 a wide open class. If he is here,
the 2009 SP would be the clear favorite. Henderson had a solid Brecksville only
losing to D1 wrestlers on his way to finishing 7th and ended the season well
with a championship at the OVAC. Burrell had a superb Brecksville finishing 2nd,
but then seemed to struggle at the CIT on his way to a 6th place finish.
Blankenship, a placer at Heath, rolled through Pleasant and owns a win over
Carius. Kelton had a good weekend in Alliance, netting him 5th at Top Gun;
meanwhile Carius took 5th at Hoover. Stinemetz just made the cut to 189 last
weekend at Hayes. A placer at Medina and Mason he should fare well here. Moray,
only a freshman, might turn some heads as well.

D3 state alternate Jackson looks as if moving up a division wont affect him at
all. He has taken 1st at Olentangy Liberty, Marion Harding and Pleasant. At the
CIT he only lost to the number 1 ranked wrestler in D1 at 215, Henderson. Brown
and Rice are both returning SQs from Heath. Brown has missed the bulk of this
year and Im not sure has yet to wrestle in a tournament format this season. He
did avenge his loss to West Jeffersons Fabry from last year in a dual and beat
Rice twice last year at Heath. Rice has surely closed the gap if one even
exists. He wrestled a good portion of the season at heavyweight and wrestling
215 at Top Gun he finished 4th. Branko Busick left some rather large shoes to
fill. James DeVaul is doing a rather respectable job. He finished 1st at
Barnesville and placed 2nd at the OVAC losing only to Pyciak. 215 will be a
dynamite class at Claymont.

Brakemans second and final prediction to win a state title from the Claymont
district is Londons Matt Schramm. Youd be hard pressed to disagree with him
after the tournament he put together at Hoover beating D1 SP and #1 ranked
Buzzelli in the finals. Eckroth and Malone might be just behind. Eckroth placed
7th at the Schott last year and took 1st at the OVAC this season. Malone lost a
6-5 decision to Buzzelli at Hoover, then maybe because of an apparent injury
dropped to 6th. Healthy at Top Gun he finished 5th ahead of Malone. Both Settles
and Pressley were district placers at Heath, they should both contend to qualify
this year.
