CALCUTTA - Close but no cigar.

Beaver Local may have posted 17 top four finishers at the Hoppel Tournament Saturday, but it wasn't enough to overcome a strong Bellaire team, as the Big Reds won the day with 280.5 points. The Beavers followed with 229.5 with Holy Name (147) taking third.

Other teams competing included: Brooke, Edison, Minerva, Ridgewood and Wheeling Central.

Four Beaver Local wrestlers found themselves in first at the end of the day, as John McComas (103), Dylan Ice (140), Arizona Miller (119) and Jake Henderson (189) all took the top spot in the respective weight classes.

At the 103 weight class a pair of Beavers claimed two of the top four spots, as McComas pinned Bellaire's Josh Davis in 2:31 for the title and Cody Parson topped Brooke's Josh Leport 11-4 to take third.

The team accomplished a similar feat at 119, where Miller put Holy Name's Tyler Karras on his back in 2:25 and Tyler Palmer beat Bellaire's Andrew Banker 11-3.

Ice had the most impressive championship win, pinning Bellaire's Jesse Dobson in 1:28. In the same class Tyler Palmer finished third after beating Big Reds' Andrew Banker 11-3.

The Beaver Local, Bellaire showdowns were the theme of the day, as four place matches pitted the two schools against one another.

On a pair of occasions two Beaver Local wrestlers stepped on the same mat. At 275 J.J. Intorre topped teammate Joe Ross to take third and Tyler Givens (171) pinned Nathan Wathey in 2:32 for third place.

Other Beaver Local placers included: in second - Steve Swartz (125), in third - Slade Williams (130) and Lucas Krosen (160) and in fourth - Cameron Miller (135) and John Brown (215).

215: Brooke's Anthony Pederson took 1st pinning Clegg from Bellaire, Edison's Brandon Bradley took 3rd at 215, pinning Brown in 3:43.
